What Fits in 10 x 30 Storage Unit?

It can be stressful to pick the right size storage unit when you’re preparing to move your home or business possessions. Of course, you want enough space for all your belongings, but you don’t want to waste money on a bigger unit than you need.

Peavler Moving & Storage can answer all your questions and concerns about which storage unit size to pick. Here are some common questions movers have about 10 x 30 foot storage units.

Storage Unit Sizes Offered by Peavler Moving & Storage

Peavler Moving & Storage offers five sizes of climate-controlled storage units:

  • 5×10
  • 10×10
  • 10×15
  • 10×20
  • 10×30

For those who don’t regularly use these measurements, it can be hard to visualize how much and what kind of items fit into these spaces. Let’s look at what fits a 10 x 30 storage unit.

How Big is a 10 x 30 Storage Unit?

10 x 30 storage units are 10 feet in width and 30 feet in depth. The height of the storage unit can vary in size, but most are eight feet tall. This allows 2,400 square cubic feet of storage space.

If you’re having trouble envisioning the size of a 10 x 30 storage unit, it’s almost identical to the dimensions of most two-car garages.

A 10 x 30 unit is the biggest unit available at Peavler Moving & Storage and most other storage facilities. If you need more space, renting another unit is advised.

What Fits in a 10 x 30 Storage Unit?

When packed correctly, a 10 x 30 storage unit can hold the belongings and furniture of an average five-room house! Since it is the size of a two-car garage, large equipment, cars and trucks, machinery, and outdoor vehicles can fit in a 10 x 30 storage unit.

What Furniture Fits in a 10 x 20 Storage Unit?

While some people rent storage space for their outdoor equipment and vehicles, most rent storage units to temporarily store their furniture and belongings. So what would fit in a 10 x 30 space?

You can’t expect to fit all your material possessions in a 10 x 30 space. But some common items that fit easily in this sized space include:

  • Bedroom furniture: all bedroom furniture, such as bed frames and mattresses, dressers and nightstands, and shelves and desks can fit. You can maximize your space by disassembling some furniture (like bed frames).
  • Living room furniture: couches, bookcases, coffee tables, side tables, and more.
  • Vehicles and outdoor equipment: cars, vans, trucks, RVs, and trailers can fit in this sized space. Additionally, other large outdoor equipment such as canoes, ATVs, jet skis, and lawnmowers can fit.
  • Outdoor furniture: preserve the longevity of your outdoor patio furniture by storing it in a storage unit during the winter.
  • Kitchen contents: tables, chairs, chest freezers, refrigerators, and additional appliances.

What Else Are 10 x 30 Storage Units Used For?

While most people use storage units for their personal belongings, they can also serve two other purposes:

  • Business Items: whether it’s excess stock, materials, files, equipment, or office furniture, business owners can take advantage of a 10 x 30 storage unit and store their office items outside their homes. While most businesses don’t need a 10 x 30 space, some large businesses do.
  • Estate Inheritance: inheriting an estate can be overwhelming. You shouldn’t feel rushed to sort through a loved one’s belongings! Storing inherited items in a storage unit gives you plenty of time to sort these items with care and consideration.

What’s the Difference Between a 10 x 20 and a 10 x 30 Storage Unit?

If you’ve been following our storage unit series, then you might notice that 10 x 20 and 10 x 30 fit about the same amount of furniture. Both sizes accommodate a five-bedroom house’s worth of furniture, and both can fit most standard vehicles. So what’s the difference?

A 10 x 30 has more space than a 10 x 20, which can make all the difference in storage accessibility! If you have lots of possessions–not just furniture–then a 10 x 30 may accommodate your possessions more comfortably. This is especially true if you plan to regularly access your belongings (like seasonal items).

A 10 x 30 space also fits oversized cars, trucks, and trailers. However, measure your vehicle before reserving a storage unit to ensure it will fit in the space. It doesn’t just have to fit; you also need to safely maneuver it in and out of the storage space.

Is a 10 x 20 Storage Unit the Right Size for You?

There are many factors to consider before renting a 10 x 20 storage unit size.

First, consider the size of your house or office. If your house is larger than an average five-room house, your possessions won’t fit in a 10 x 30 space. Additionally, consider the quantity of belongings you wish to store. Some five-room houses are packed to the brim and others aren’t.

Secondly, consider how you would like to access your belongings. If access doesn’t matter, then you might be able to stuff your storage space to the gills. But, if you want easier access to seasonal items, you should ensure you have pathways and can move your belongings around easily.

Finally, consider the size of the furniture and equipment you are storing. Multiple large pieces of furniture, cars or outdoor equipment, and many possessions may not fit in this space.
