Refusal to Show the Mini Storage Unit
Staff who refuse to show a mini storage unit before signing a contract are most likely hiding defects in the unit. Never sign with a company that refuses to show you a unit! You should inspect the construction, maintenance, and security of the unit before proceeding forward.
Water Damage
Upon inspecting the unit, look closely for any water damage, such as warped wood, mold, or dampness. This can indicate flooding or leaks. Any dampness or flooding in a unit would eventually damage or ruin your possessions.
Evidence of Pests
Storage units are a potential haven for pests of all shapes and sizes. Look carefully for rodent droppings, gnaw marks, or dead bugs in the unit and hallways. Rodents and insects can chew away at your possessions and leave them damaged or ruined.
Broken or Missing Security Systems
Ask the staff to point out security cameras and other security measures. If these are broken or unsatisfactory, you should not sign a contract with the company because of the potential for burglary.
