How Is a Move Estimated?

Before hiring a moving company, it’s best to get a few estimates. But what goes into determining a moving estimate?

There are several factors in estimating the cost of a move:

  • Workers: Some moving jobs are bigger than others. How many movers are needed to get the job done plays a huge role in the estimation cost, as these workers are typically paid hourly.
  • Weight: The weight of your possessions can make a difference in transportation fees.
  • Distance: Local moves will be cheaper than long-distance moves

When inquiring about moving companies, ask what estimates they offer. There are three main types of estimates.

Non-Binding Estimate

As the name implies, this type of estimate doesn’t hold the moving company to a specific price. After the service is completed, the moving company can charge significantly more than the estimation they gave.

Scammers like to use non-binding estimates, so be wary of a low estimation.

Binding Moving Estimate

This type of estimation binds the mover to the quote. This is advantageous to you if the move ends up costing more than anticipated. However, if the move is cheaper than expected, you must still pay the agreed amount.

Guaranteed Price

Also known as price protection, this type is the most customer-friendly. If the cost of the move is above the estimate, you don’t pay more, but the company will adjust the final price if the move costs are lower than expected.

“Used Peavler On Six Separate Occasions”

Our family has used Peavler Moving and Storage on six separate occasions over the past 31 years. We found them to be professional, reliable, trustworthy, and extremely knowledgeable in the care and moving of our belongings. They have moved us three times within Danville and three times out of state. Each time they took great care during the move. We also have used their storage facility. It was very clean and secure. We highly recommend for moves short or long, as well as storage needs.
