How should I organize my storage space for the easiest access to all my items?
If you are renting a mini storage unit for short-term storage (or long-term storage without a need to access the items inside), it doesn’t matter as much how you organize your mini storage unit. However, be sure to leave a center aisle for access, and a perimeter at the edges of the unit for ventilation. Take advantage of the unit’s height with shelves, stacking boxes, or carefully stacking furniture.
If you’re renting a mini storage unit for long-term storage, it may be advantageous to rent a slightly larger unit so items can be more accessible. You can still stack items vertically without stacking to the ceiling, as accessing tall stacks of items isn’t as safe as shorter stacks. Label every box thoroughly and try to organize similar items together, or by room. Put items you’re less likely to use at the back of the unit and leave walkways for accessibility to all items, even to the back.
What’s the difference between standard and climate-controlled mini storage units?
Standard mini storage units have minimal insulation and are subject to weather and humidity fluctuations. Items inside a standard mini storage unit should be able to withstand extreme temperature changes.
On the other hand, climate-controlled mini storage units keep the unit’s temperature between 55 and 85 degrees, which preserves your stored items better than a standard mini storage unit.
