1. Purge before you pack.
If you’re starting the daunting task of packing up all of your belongings and feeling like your items have somehow quadrupled since you moved last, have a good purge first.
If you haven’t used something in months or even years maybe you don’t need to lug it to your next home. Host a yard sale or donate your unwanted items instead of carrying them all the way to your new home just to collect dust there.
2. Make yourself a timeline and a checklist.
If you’re anything like me, whenever you are approaching a move, you feel like you’re totally ready, then you find yourself frantically throwing random things into any box or container you have.
This move, instead make yourself a checklist of things you need to do all the way from buying boxes and tape, hiring movers and locating any storage facilities you will need, to updating your license and changing your address.
I know for me, whenever I’m in a busy season, everything seems so much more chaotic until I’ve written it all down and have a game plan in place.

4. Schedule babysitters and pet sitters.
Trying to coordinate a move with many moving parts with small children “helping” you can be very challenging. Also, keeping track of your pets with lots of different people going in and out of the door throughout the day can be difficult as well as dangerous.
